Mirador Santo Domingo beats Prisons Nairobi by 3-2: Club Volleyball news
The FIVB Volleyball Women’s Club World Championship tournament is currently under way in Doha, Qatar with pool play taking place between Mirador Santo Domingo of Dominican Republic against the Prisons Nairobi club of Kenya on the October 10. The match between
the two sides took on thrilling tones as both teams fought for five long and gruelling sets at the end of which the Dominican Republic club prevailed in earning a well deserved win.
The first two sets of the match were lost by the Dominican Republic but they were able to avoid a clean sweep after winning the third one. The Kenyans tried hard to end the match on their terms in the fourth set but they could not stop the determined Dominican
Republic club from taking the match to a fifth set and eventually sealing the deal in the game at the following final set scores: 20-25, 20-25, 25-20, 26-24 and 15-7.
The coach of the Dominican Republic club, Wilson Sanchez expressed himself in the following manner at the press conference after the match had reached its close: “We are happy for this victory - congratulation for the players of the two teams. The Kenyan
team has young players. In the first two sets we committed some mistakes, then we managed to correct our mistakes. We are looking forward to do better in the next matches.”
On the other hand, the coach of the Kenyan team David Lungaho shared his feelings in the following manner: “I am happy for the performance of the two teams. My team improved and played much better than last year's championship. We will fight hard in the
next matches in order to achieve victories.”
The Kenyans were leading in the opening set of the game at 3-2 but the Miradors were able to get the lead at 6-3, the second technical time out came with the Kenyans leading at 16-15 but by the time the frame reached its close, the Kenyans had bagged it
at 25-20. The second set of the game remained close until the second technical time out at 16-14, in favour of Mirador but it was the Kenyan club that bagged the set again at 25-20.
The loss of the first two sets of the game struck the right chords in the Dominican Republic and they were able to come out strong in the third fourth and fifth sets to win each one at 25-20, 26-24 and 15-7 respectively.
The player that gave an impressive display of volleyball skills and put pressure on the opponents was Mirador’s Jeoselina Rodriguez as she tallied a total of 25 points for her team. On the other hand, the player that was most active on the Kenyan side was
Brackcides Khadambi who made her presence felt by putting up 20 points for her club.
