Mirage Poker Room?

I am going to Vegas at the end of May, and we are staying at the Mirage. I have played Texas Hold'em for a while, and I'm looking to play while in Vegas. I have read on numerous sights that the poker room at the Mirage is one of the best in town, and also attracts some of the best competition in town. How hard is it to come out ahead in the $1-$2 NL Hold'em games? Or should I look for something else because this is what I play most of the time....Sometimes $2-$5. Any input is greatly appreciated!!!

At those stakes I don't really think it matters.

Any good player is going to play far higher than $1/$2.  So at that level you are going to be competing against fun players, tourists, and other non-serious players.  If you play well you should be able to come out ahead.  The Mirage is as good a place as any to play, and if you are already staying there, may as well give it a shot.

Treasure Island is not too far if you feel like a change, and they  offer $1/$3, which is a little bit more money if you fancy a change in stakes.  Although I didn't play at the Mirage last time I was there, they may offer those stakes too.

My guess is that the sites you are reading are fairly out of date. The Mirage use to be the top poker room until the Bellagio opened. Now it is split between the Bellagio and the Venetian.

Almost every casino has a poker room these days so not hard to find a game. Even as recently as 3 years ago only a handful of casinos spread hold'em.

I play a considerably higher limit so can't offer any advise on 1-2NL.

If this is your normal game, then take a shot at 1-2 no limit hold'em.  Take your time when first entering the game to get a feel of the players and their individual styles.  Try entering pots for a raise and see at what level players are folding their hands.  Decide if you are playing well and want to continue to play.

Playing are the Mirage is good fun.  Ask for a food comp or a line pass if you are going to the buffet.

I have played at Bally's and the game is good because it is full of tourists and conventioneers.

if you are patient and can somewhat read your apponents and know your math for the game you can come out ahead. pick your table wisely , try finding a table with people that are playing loose and if you play semi tight you can win a bundle just make sure you get in a table where there isnt many players with bankrolls higher than what you plan on buying in for

Mirage is still one of the nicer poker rooms, although Bellagio and Venetian are probably nicer, but not by much.

Bellagio does not spread a 1-2 game ever. They start at 2-5, and the competition is tough. The good news about playing against smart players is that you rarely find some rookie chasing (and catching) his straight or flush to the river.

Venetian spreads a 1-2 game round the clock. I know because I just sat down for 24 hours straight a couple of days ago. The competition is not as tough as Bellagio, and there are a lot more business travelers just looking to kill a few hours before a plane leaves or while the wife goes shopping, etc. There are also more drunk players at 3AM. Needless to say, all of these people part with their money a lot more easily.

The weakest game around is supposed to be at Bally's, but I've never played there. I like Venetian the best.
