Mirco Di Tora excels in Men’s 50m backstroke heats: Day three – European LC Championships
Mirco Di Tora of Italy excelled in the qualification rounds of Men’s 50m backstroke on day three of the European Long Course Championships in Debrecen, Hungary on Wednesday, May 23.
The 26-year-old Di Tora faced tough competition from his closes challenger throughout the single lap backstroke event but with his strong determination, he succeeded in reaching the finishing wall for first position.
Di Tora remained hardly one stroke ahead of his strongest challenger and emerged on the finishing end for fastest qualifying position by submitting a time of 25.18 seconds.
He was chased by Jonatan Kopelev of Israel, who stayed 0.06 seconds apart and produced an effort of 25.24 seconds for second position.
With his fascinating effort, Kopelev remained 0.16 seconds ahead of France’s Dorian Gandin, who entered the second round of the race by producing a time of 25.40 seconds for third position.
Fourth fastest spot of the race was secured by Guy Barnea of Israel, who remained only 0.04 seconds slower and hit the finishing end with an effort of 25.44 seconds.
After that, the arena witnessed a stupendous effort of Coralie Balmy of France, who stayed considerably faster from her opponents in the Women’s 800m freestyle prelims.
The 24-year-old Balmy remained one body length ahead of her following rival and entered the playoff with the timing of 8 minutes and 32.45 seconds.
Balmy was chased by Eva Risztov of Hungary, who proved her eligibility for second best position by producing an effort of 8 minutes and 33.44 seconds.
Third fastest qualification spot of the race was secured b Melanie Costa Schmid of Spain, who was just a half body length slower form upsetting her former finisher and posted an effort of 8 minutes and 34.00 seconds.
Costa Schmid was chased by her team-member, Erika Villaecija Garcia, who snared fourth best qualifying position of the discipline by reporting a time of 8 minutes and 36.07 seconds.
The arena applauded for gruelling efforts of all contestants in the preliminary rounds of their respective events while these swimmers will face each other in the next rounds of their exclusive events.
