Mireia Belmonte Garcia wins Women’s 400m IM gold: Day two – 2011 Jose Finkel Trophy, Brazil
Mireia Belmonte Garcia of CRF/RJ won the gold crown of Women’s 400m Individual Medley (IM) final on the subsequent day of the 2011 Jose Finkel Trophy on August 31, in Belo Horizonte, Brazil.
Belmonte Garcia presented a remarkable effort in the 400m IM discipline by conquering the gold medal of the event in a time of 4 minutes and 51.63 seconds. Despite her extraordinary effort, the gold medallist remained nearly 22 seconds slower than the world
record of 4 minute and 29.45 seconds, set by Stephanie Rice of Australia at the 2009 Rome World Championships.
The fastest swimmer was trailed by Georgina Bardach of UNISANTA, who remained 1.56 seconds away from her and reached the podium for silver medal, by submitting a time of 4 mintues and 53.19 seconds. The silver medallist maintained a prominent lead over her
following swimmer, Julia Benvenutti Gerotto of FIAT/MINAS, who stayed 8.92 seconds behind Bardach and acquired third fastest spot of the swim with a timing of 5 minutes and 01.91 seconds.
Belmonte was the arena’s favourite athlete of the swim for the start, as she had proved her dominance for gold medal of the same event at the 2010 Dubai World Championships. Apart from this, Belmonte also claimed the gold medals of 200m butterfly and the
200m IM at the same world titles. She also pocketed a silver medal in the 800m freestyle at Dubai Championships.
The fourth spot of the swim was obtained by Maria Caroline Ferreira of CORINTHIANS/S.BERNAR, who remained nearly four seconds slower than the bronze medallist and posted a time of 5 minutes and 05.87 seconds. Ferreira was in a lead of 0.33 seconds over Larissa
Freitas Cieslak of FIAT/MINAS, who transpired as the fifth best finisher of the event with a timing of 5 minutes and 06.20 seconds.
Meanwhile, Cieslak was trailed by Julia L Siqueira of FFC/RJ, who remained 2.97 seconds away from her former finisher and clocked a sixth finest time of 5 minutes and 09.17 seconds. The seventh spot of the race was secured by Jhessica Karoline Silva Santos
of UNISANTA, who clocked a time of 5 minutes and 10.05 seconds. Rebeca Bianca Bretanha of CORINTHIANS/S.BERNAR surfaced as the eighth finisher of the event, as she produced a time of 5 minutes and 11.10 seconds.
Furthermore, the crowd appreciated the efforts of all participants, while the podium finishers were called upon the victory stand for their outstanding efforts after the session’s completion.
