Question:

Mirena birth control string lost?

I just got my mirena inserted Thursday with extreme difficulty. The doctor told me to come back this Thursday because he wants to make sure he didnt perforate my uterus. Yesterday I felt the strings and today I have been feeling sickish, nausteated and passing quarter size brown clots. I felt for the strings and they are no where to be found. I felt them yesterday and now I dont feel them. So I called the answering service and he told me to call Tuesday morning and for me to come in. Where could the strings have gone? He seems to think I will be okay untill then, but knowing that something could be in you and you dont know where it is, is kind of nerve wracking. I know I didnt pass it, so its obviously in me. Do you think it could have perforated my uterus or just in my uterus?

Thanks for any helpful information.

  1. If it had perforated your uterus, you'd be in a lot of pain right now. It might have shifted position slightly, and that's why you are having trouble finding the string. If you do end up being in a lot of pain or if you develop a fever, you should go to the emergency room. But otherwise, there's really no place for it to go, so it's probably just sitting in your uterus. I have a Mirena, and yeah, it sure hurt to put in, and the doctor had a lot of trouble (I've never given birth). My uterus was spasming for a day or so after it was put in, so I took Motrin. No problems at all afterwards, and it's been 3 years.

  2. If your uterus was perforated you would know about it...I wouldnt worry too much not finding the strings as i have be wearing a Mirena now for 6 years and have my strings cut off! so hubby does not feel them. Your symptoms are related to having the Mirena inserted, do not worry it will settle down soon.
