Mireya Belmonte claims Women’s 400m freestyle gold: Day five – Maria Lenk Trophy, Rio de Janeiro
Mireya Belmonte of CRF/RJ claimed gold medal of the Women’s 400m freestyle on fifth day of the 2012 Maria Lenk Trophy in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil on Saturday, April 28.
Belmonte stunned the aquatic crowd by winning gold medal of the 400m discipline in an impressive manner. With her immaculate efforts, she remained prominently faster from her fellow challengers throughout the playoff and tapped the wall for gold medal.
She enjoyed an advantage of almost 5 metres over her following swimmer and hit the finishing blockade with the timing of 4 minutes and 05.70 seconds for gold medal.
The champion was followed by Lotte Friis of CORINTHIANS/ABDEM, who remained almost four seconds behind and transpired on the finishing blockade with the timing of 4 minutes and 09.68 seconds for silver medal.
The second position holder was trailed by Cecilia Elizabeth Biagioli of UNISANTA, who accomplished bronze medal of the 400m event by producing an effort of 4 minutes and 12.53 seconds.
Biagioli remained almost two body lengths away from her following swimmer, Manuella Lyrio of FIAT/MINAS, who claimed fourth fastest spot of the race by producing a time of 4 minutes and 15.49 seconds.
His scintillating effort remained almost 1.50 seconds ahead of Friis’s team-member, Poliana Okimoto, who finished her swim in fifth best place by reporting a time of 4 minutes and 17.09 seconds.
Meanwhile, Ana Marcela de Jesus da Cunha of UNISANTA snared sixth best position of the discipline as she tapped the wall with the timing of 4 minutes and 18.82 seconds.
She was followed by Carolina Bilich of FIAT/MINAS, who settled on the finishing end as seventh position holder by reporting a time of 4 minutes and 20.53 seconds.
Finally, Cunha’s team-member, Isabelle Franca Longo ended her swim in eighth best place as she failed to upset any of her challengers and hit the wall with the timing of 4 minutes and 20.66 seconds.
Belmonte was overjoyed with her gold winning effort in the double lap event whereas the session came to an end after the completion of all listed events in Men and Women’s category.
