Mireya Belmonte wins Women’s 400m IM gold: Day four – Maria Lenk Trophy, Rio de Janeiro
Mireya Belmonte won gold medal of the Women’s 400m Individual Medley (IM) on fourth day of the 2012 Maria Lenk Trophy in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil on Friday, April 27.
Belmonte went on a rampage in the distant IM event and gathered gold medal of the discipline. With her impeccable performance, she stayed considerably faster from her fellow swimmers and touched the wall for the title of the discipline.
With her continued efforts, she sprinted her way towards the finishing end for gold medal by submitting a time of 4 minutes and 39.41 seconds.
She was followed by Joanna Maranhao, who occupied silver medal of the discipline by clocking a time of 4 minutes and 42.32 seconds.
Maranhao was chased by Bruna Veronez Primati of PAINEIRAS, who remained nearly 17 seconds behind and hit the wall with the timing of 4 minutes and 59.39 seconds for bronze medal.
Fourth best spot of the race was trailed by Giovanna Dorigon of CURITIBANO, who remained just 0.03 seconds slower and touched the wall with the timing of 4 minutes and 59.42 seconds.
Similarly, Dorigon remained 0.08 seconds ahead of Larissa Freitas Cieslak, who occupied fifth position of the discipline by clocking a time of 4 minutes and 59.50 seconds for fifth position.
The fifth fastest finisher was trailed by Jessica Veronez, who stayed nearly three seconds behind her foregoing finisher and hit the finishing blockade with the timing of 5 minutes and 02.47 seconds for sixth position.
In the meantime, Gabriela Albuquerque Mello stayed 2.10 seconds slower from her foregoing competitor and emerged on the finishing blockade with the timing of 5 minutes and 04.57 seconds.
Last spot of the race was secured by Ana Marcela De Jesus Da Cunha, who stayed nearly 1.50 seconds slower and hit the wall with the timing of 5 minutes and 05.98 seconds for eighth position.
In addition, the session ended after the completion of all listed events in Men and Women’s corner while the position holders of the 400m event were awarded accolades for their impressive swims at the medal ceremony of the championship.
