Formula 1 has been the centre of attention for all of the motorsports fans this year after an exhilarating and dramatic 2010 season.
Most of the drivers from other motorsports were quite inspired and impressed by what the teams are doing in order to secure their drivers a safe and promising drive. Since most of the teams are experimenting and coming up with new ideas and devices like
the F-duct, blown diffusers etc, it seems that Formula 1 has been a sport of engineering and technicalities more rather than physical abilities.
As a result, most of the rookie drivers are hoping to join the sport as soon as they get a chance and Mirko Bortolotti is one of them. Even though most of the teams have already released their official drivers’ line-up for the 2011 Formula 1 season, Mirko
is still confident that he will make it to the sport sooner or later.
Despite the fact that he was dropped from Red Bull’s programme at the beginning of 2010 and later on, dropped by Ferrari Driver Academy after a difficult season in GP3, he believes that he can achieve his goals and fulfil his dream of driving in Formula
1 one day.
“The change of course of the Ferrari Driver Academy is for me a bit unexpected and I am. From the F1 test engineers I've only had good feedback and they're always happy with my performance and my work,” disappointed, he told the media.
Mirko won the Italian Formula 3 at the age of 18 and caught the attention of the Formula 1 paddock; he was picked by Red Bull and got the chance of completing two days of young driver’s testing with Toro Rosso until the end of the 2009 season.
“I'm a racing driver, not a dreamer. On the other hand, I have had so much encouragement that I am still working on my goal and will not give up. And this encouragement, also from important people in formula one, motivates me a lot,” he said.
Even though he was unable to finish in a decent place in the drivers’ standings of the GP3 championship, he believes that he has what it takes to take a team to the top and since he won his first title at the age of 18, one cannot disagree with him at all.
