Mirko De Falco and Guglielmo Giordano take early lead on Day 1 of 2012 Audi Melges 20 Sailing Series
Opening day of the 2012 Audi Melges 20 Sailing Series started under ideal wind conditions that gave complete liberty to the fleet to have perfect sailing proceedings on the Portoferraio waters. The second act of the 2012 Audi Melges 20 Sailing Series brought
together top teams from around the world to the Portoferraio for a superb sailing experience.
The weather conditions on the Portoferraio racing area were outstanding and provided the fleet with impressive sailing environment. The Melges 20 fleet completed four scheduled races on time to line up the leader-board standings at the conclusion of the
first day.
With some convincing sailing, Mirko De Falco and Guglielmo Giordano and their boat Pecceré were able to make it on top of the fleet standings. Despite the fact that the pair did not clinch any bullet during their regatta run on the first day, they compiled
some convincing finishes to claim the leading podium place.
The first race of Day 1 did not go well for the leading pair as they finished on ninth position which placed them down on ninth spot. However, the team showed some guts in the second race and grabbed a second finish to push themselves up on higher podiums.
Third race proved lucky for them as they hit the third spot to occupy the first position. A seventh podium place in the fourth was enough to ensure their lead over the fleet with 21 points.
