Mirko Slomka: Steve Cherundolo will achieve full fitness prior to the start of the new season
Hannover coach, Mirko Slomka, has claimed that defender Steve Cherundolo will gain full fitness prior to the start of the 2011/12 season. The player recently got injured on international duty with the http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/United-States-c3034. The veteran represented his country in
the Gold Cup final where USA lost to http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Mexico-c2956 by a 4-2 margin.
Cherundolo was forced to leave the field after sustaining an injury to his knee. At first the injury seemed only a scare, but x-ray reports later revealed that the player would require a three-week rest before he can feature for his club side. The news was
welcomed by both the player and the club officials, who were unaware about the true extent of the injury.
The Hannover coach assured that the 32-year-old would certainly feature in the club’s opening game against Hoffenheim, which will take place on August 6, 2011. He admitted that the veteran will not be taking part in training, which could be a drawback but
it won’t deter him from taking part in the club’s opening game.
The manager was very much relieved at this news and commented, "The news disturbs our preparation but Stevie will be quickly back to health and well for the new season, he is a very important part of our team."
The USA international joined the Reds in 1999 and has managed 325 Bundesliga appearances since then, netting seven goals during the process. He also has featured 72 times for the U.S. national side, scoring two goals ever since making his debut in 1999.
The player was also pleased at the minor extent of his injury and was itching to get back on his feet and start training with the club. The veteran, though, was disappointed after ending up on the losing side in the Gold Cup final but vowed to put that result
behind him and make a fresh start to the 2011/12 season.
