Mirnyi/Nestor oust Marach/Tipsarevic to reach doubles quarters – Shanghai Rolex Masters 2011
World number three duo of Max Mirnyi of Belarus and Daniel Nestor of Canada won its second round encounter against the unseeded combination of Oliver Marach of Austria and Janko Tipsarevic of Serbia in the Shanghai Rolex Masters on Thursday afternoon.
The contest was staged on the outdoor hard courts of the Qizhong Forest Sports City Arena in Shanghai, China, with the second seeded pair achieving victory in straight sets, 6-2, 6-3, in barely 51 minutes of play.
Mirnyi and Nestor were absolutely unplayable in the contest and brutally devastated their opponents to force their way into the quarter-finals of the ATP (Association of Tennis Professionals) Masters Series event. They kept the games short and professional,
giving away minimum opportunities to their opponents to come on top of the contest.
The second seeded duo outplayed its opponents in every segment of the game and faced no real challenge in concluding a comprehensive victory in style. Mirnyi and Nestor delivered 65 per cent of their serve on target and collected 25 out of 31 first serve
points in the matchup to come out as winner in the end. They crafted four break opportunities in the game and cashed in three of them en route to victory.
Marach and Tipsarevic utterly failed to register a single serve breaks in the entire matchup, squandering away a vital break opportunity in the second set to finish on the losing side. They suffered two crushing break point conversions from the second seeded
opponents to submit the first set at 2-6 and continued their slump in the following set to lose the matchup. A total of 91 points were played in the matchup, with Mirnyi and Nestor bagging 53 and their opponent lagging far behind with just 38 points.
Mirnyi and Nestor will meet the other unseeded duo of Nicolas Almagro of Spain and Bruno Soares of Brazil, in the round of eight to battle for a place in the semis of the Shanghai Rolex Masters. Almagro and Soares stunned the seventh seed Indo-Pak team of
Rohan Bopanna and Aisam-ul-Haq Qureshi in straight sets, 7-6(8), 6-4, to reach the quarter-final round.
