Miroslav Klose praises Germany strike partner Lukas Podolski
Germany striker Miroslav Klose today had nothing but praise for his front-line partner Lukas Podolski after the duo helped their country demolish Azerbaijan 6-1 in a UEFA 2012 European Football Championship qualifying match last night.
Klose grabbed a double after he netted in injury-time at the end of each half while Podolski also found himself on the scoresheet.
The Bayern Munch striker gave credit to his strike partner Podolski and his team-mates, saying they had made the game easy for him. He told UEFA.com that: "Everyone knows how good a player Podolski is. I am convinced that he always wants to perform. He is not influenced by others but simply goes out and does his thing. That is one of his strengths. For me, the game against Azerbaijan was pretty easy. The ball fell to my feet twice and I just had to tap it in. If the team works like they did on Tuesday and create chances, then it is easy for a striker."
Tough Turkish test
After winning both of their first two games, Germany are at the top of the group alongside Turkey, who have also collected six points as they bid to reach the Euro 2012 finals in Poland and Ukraine. The group leaders will meet in Germany on 8 October, and Klose said that: "It was our plan to get six points from the two games. It will be a different matter against Turkey, but we have qualities in our team with which we can hurt them."
Meanwhile, Germany national team coach Joachim Loew was delighted with his side’s performance in last night’s game. He told reporters after the match that: The team has some great chemistry. It's fun to see this chemistry again. It's also a good thing that we did not stop after going ahead 3-0, but continued to go for even more."
