Mirza Teletovic reveals what led him to the Brooklyn Nets – NBA Update
After taking the decision to not come to America as a teenager in order to stay close to home, Mirza Teletovic has finally opted to bring his talents to the NBA and what better team to join then the newly found Brooklyn Nets.
The Brooklyn based team have been involved in some of the biggest moves during the off season in order to start a rebuilding process and on Thursday they introduced two of their recent acquisitions in Reggie Evans and Teletovic,
who has agreed to sign a three year deal worth $10 million.
Teletovic had drawn interests from several different colleges as a 16 year old including the likes of Gonzaga and University of Connecticut but the desire to stay close to his family led him to play professional basketball in Belgium.
Following his media introduction, Mirza went on to shed light on what led to him to join the Nets when other lucrative offers were still on the table for him.
"I told my agent to push for the Nets. It was always my dream to play in the NBA and now that dream is coming true. I wasn't worried about the contract. It was all about coming to a team that had a big chance to win."
Teletovic had been playing professional basketball for the best part of the past 10 years in Europe and spent last season playing the Spanish league. But, a desire to play in the NBA was the only thing that remained.
He was able to average 16.9 points and collect just about 7 rebounds last season while playing for the Spanish outfit, Caja Laboral Vitoria and took his scoring average to 21 points in the 10 games of Euro Cup.
Now with his lifelong dream of playing in the NBA fulfilled, Teletovic is looking to retain his style of play, which he thinks was always suited to NBA.
"People have asked me if I need to adjust to play in the NBA, but I have always played like an NBA player, running up and down the floor, shooting from distance." - Teletovic
