Mirza Teletovic stars as Caja Laboral beat Bennet Cantu 81-69: Euroleague Basketball Recap
Caja Laboral’s second outing in the Turkish Airlines Euroleague turned out to be a successful one again as they overpowered Bennet Cantu 81-69 in a game played at Iradier Arena.
Bennet Cantu were in the game for three quarters, but some late heroics of Mirza Teletovic completely took the game away from them.
Teletovic ended with game high 22 points, scoring 12 in the last quarter alone. Milko Bjelica was also impressive adding 17 points while Thomas Huertel and Kevin Seraphin chipped in with 11 and 10 points respectively.
Teletovic was pretty psyched with the win and with his own performance. Expressing his jubilation, he said
"I’m very happy about this win; I'm very happy for the work the team has done, because it was a very tough contest that required all we had to win. I didn’t win the game alone; the team did a great job on defense in the last quarter,
preventing them from scoring. You can always find a guy on this team who can score to win the game – today it was me, but it can be whoever"
Vladimir Micov was the top scorer from losing side finishing with 14 points. Marko Scekic and Giorgi Shermadini were the other two prominent players from Bennet scoring 13 and 11 points respectively.
A high scoring first quarter commenced with a layup followed by a dunk from Kevin Seraphin. Cantu were scoreless for first three minutes however they opened their account with a three-pointer from Manuchar Markoishvili. Both teams
displayed solid offense thereafter, neither allowing the other to run away with the show.
With seconds to go in the frame, the scores were level at 25, but a free throw from Milko Bjelica provided Caja with a one point lead going into the second quarter.
Cantu managed to get ahead of Caja in the first minute; however three 3-pointers in quick succession by Caja again tilted the balance. Cantu responded swiftly and were two points ahead of Caja with seconds to go in the quarter;
however a two pointer by Marko helped Caja even out scores at 44.
The third quarter again was pretty much in equilibrium. An early onslaught allowed Caja to acquire a significant 7 point lead within two minutes; however Cantu never allowed lead to grow and kept on chipping away at the advantage.
The scores were level at 59with less than a minute to go but courtesy of two consecutive free throws, Caja managed to end the quarter with a 2 point lead.
For first four minutes of the fourth frame, both teams were neck to neck, however an 8 point run including two three pointers by Teletovic decided the fate of the game and Caja made it two out of two.
