Question:

Mis-marked Dutch rabbit? Or a mixed breed?

I recently got a couple of female rabbits from a friend. She has all Dutch bunnies except for one mixed rabbit. 2 weeks after we got them, they had babies. They all look like Dutch in various shades of brown and black, but one baby looks mismarked. He/she is 3 days old and you can tell the back half will be marked like a normal Dutch. The right half of the head looks Dutch too, but the left half looks all white. Is this a mis-marked Dutch? My friend swears the mixed rabbit does not go near the others, but it is a pure white rabbit. Do Dutch sometimes come out so poorly marked or should I be suspicious of the other bunny? We'll be looking for pet homes for all of them, so it doesn't really matter, but I was just wondering.

  1. Dutch rabbits are very hard to get correct markings on, and even breeding two perfectly marked animals can give you mismarked babies. The joys of marked breeds!

It sounds like if it is just missing half the "face mask", and all the other babies are properly marked, it is from two Dutch parents. Just a mismarked baby.

  2. um, i got nothin, i just wanted to see if i could answer it but ya that one person said it all!!
