Misa Eguchi slays Nicole Rottmann to progress into the final qualifying round – Pattaya Open 2012
Japanese booming starlet, Misa Eguchi, powered down the Austrian opponent, Nicole Rottmann, in straight sets 6-1, 6-0 during the opening qualifying round of the PTT Pattaya Open.
The contest was played on hard courts in Pattaya City and the fifth seed contestant easily booked a place in the final qualifying round of the tournament where she plays against the fourth seed Thai participant, Varatchaya Wongteanchai.
It was a vital match for both players as they required some victories after very tough times at courts, losing most of the encounters played in the recent past. Eguchi had lost three of her last five matches, with her opponent
losing the same number of matches. It was crucial for both players, especially Eguchi, to take benefit of her superior ranking and plonk her rival.
Rottmann was not at all confident at the court; she was caught on heels most of the occasion and never looked to create any sort of impact. Eguchi on the other hand was very fluent with her footwork and covered ground extremely
well; nailed her opponent down with powerful cross-court and down the lines winners.
Both players started-off in nervy fashion, trading break points in the first two games before Eguchi settled into the atmosphere to set a trail of an eleven games unbeaten run in the match. A hat-trick of breakthroughs in succession
gave an easy triumph for the Japanese teenager. She dismantled the confidence of her opponent by mixing up her shots and making it extremely difficult to anticipate anything precisely.
Second set started in the same manner; momentum was against the Austrian who served the first game. She failed to kick-off proceedings in fruitful manner and gifted the first breakpoint to her opponent. The Japanese contestant
capitalized on that first break by winning the second game and doubling the lead.
It was a formidable effort from the Austrian who was not able to discover her form at any moment of the match. With couple of successive serve breaks and some dashing display of all-round shots, Eguchi bagged the second set sparing
nothing at all for her opponent.
This victory gives her the chance to play against a superior competitor in the next round. It will be an exciting contest considering the fact that both players are fuming in with confidence and playing the best tennis of their
career. Eguchi is not the hot favourite to win that contest but she definitely owns impressive odds for a classic upset.
