Misaki Doi bows out to Samantha Murray in the round two – Dunlop World Challenger 2012
Second seeded, Misaki Doi, received a shocking three-set defeat at the hands of the British challenger, Samantha Murray, in the second round of the 2012 Dunlop World Challenge Tennis Tournament held at the carpet courts of Toyota,
Japan. The British contender summed up her win 6-4, 3-6, 7-6(6) within two hours and 21 minutes on Thursday.
The world number 289, Murray, started the match at a very decent serve and quickly received her desired breakthrough in the fifth game to mark a 3-2 lead. From that point onwards, Doi was unable to withstand the pressure. The British
professional dominated for the most of the time in the matchup. The local challenger failed to show any resistance and received a decisive blow towards the end. She concluded the set with a 6-4 score line.
Ranked 92nd in the WTA Rankings, Doi, started to gain momentum in the second set. She skilfully cashed onto her opponent’s serve in the sixth game and marked a 4-2 lead. Doi struggled forward with her strong impetus
and pulled out of the equalizer with a 6-3 score.
The 25-year-old, Murray, secured 59 percent initial serve accuracy with 11 of 13 first and four of nine second serve points. The Japanese right-hander player pocketed away 12 of 15 first and nine of 10 second delivery points.
In the final set, the two participants gave each other a tough competition as they both desperately wanted to secure the victory. The score line squared down after every alternate game and smoothly progressed to a tie-breaker.
Murray timely serves and dominated throughout and eventually registered a 7-6(6) win.
The 21-year-old, local participant battled forward with a better initial serve accuracy of 78 percent. She converted 26 of 35 first but just three of 10 second serve points. She lost the lead majorly because she was only able to
capitalize on one of 12 serve breaks and her rival secured one of three. The lower ranked British competitor attained an average initial serve precision of 51 percent with 21 of 29 first and 15 of 28 second serve points.
