Misaki Doi crushes Mari Tanaka to reach round two – Dunlop World Challenge 2012
Local star, Misaki Doi, devastated her compatriot, Mari Tanaka, with a bagel at the Dunlop World Challenge 2012 on Wednesday. She jolted down a 6-3, 6-0 victory over the 25-year-old to power into the second round at this ITF (International Tennis Federation)
Women’s Circuit event taking place in Aichi, Japan.
Seeded second in this tournament, Doi displayed flawless performance to carve out the victory in straight sets. After recording the victory in one hour and six minutes, the higher ranked Japanese comfortably progressed into the second round at this indoor
carpet event.
The seeded Japanese made a strong entry at the Sky Hall Toyota. She drew the first blood in the sixth game and jumped to a 5-2 lead. Doi plucked her serve once and pulled out the opener with a 6-3 score line. She blocked the lone breakpoint she faced and
cashed the lone break chance to inch towards glory.
Ranked 92nd in the WTA (Women’s Tennis Association) Premier Rankings, Doi went berserk in the following set. She unleashed flurry of groundstrokes to reel off all six games and pocketed a bagel. The seeded Japanese was never threatened with any
barrier and converted three out of six break chances to register this impressive 6-0 victory.
On the whole, the 21-year-old took full advantage of many double faults her fellow citizen spilled. She produced a better first serve share of 70 per cent as compared to Tanaka’s 51 per cent and magnificently clicked 25 out of 33 points on it.
Doi will square off against the British contender, Samantha Murray, who battled past America’s Chieh-Yu Hsu in a three-set thriller to set up this meeting.
The top seed, Casey Dellacqua, also stole the show later that day. She needed three sets to outrun the Thai contender, Noppawan Lertcheewakarn, in a three-set nail-biter to progress.
The Australian seed lost her track in the second set. However, she went out of control in the deciding set, eventually pulling out the victory with a breadstick. Dellacqua dropped her serve twice but cashed five out of 10 break chances to formulate a 6-3,
4-6, 6-1 score line in one hour and 37 minutes.
