Misaki Doi defeats Tetiana Luzhanska to cruise into the second round of the Malaysian Open
Japanese teen-ager, Misaki Doi had no trouble in defeating the Ukrainian qualifier, Tetiana Luzhanska 6-2, 6-3 in their first round match of the BMW Malaysian Open on Tuesday. Doi took merely 68 minutes to conclude her straight sets victory over Luzhanska
to advance into the second round of the tournament.
The 19-year-old Japanese proved her skills better than Luzhanska’s in all segments, as she had an impressive first serve percentage of 69 throughout the game and cashed in her opportunities in time. She bagged 65 while her opponent won 47 of the total 112
points in the match.
It was an error-ridden game for Luzhanska, who made plenty of mistakes. The Ukrainian squandered some of the easiest net volleys and committed three double-faults in the contest. Her bleak baseline defence was penetrated by her opponent on numerous occasions.
Doi had an excellent start to the contest, striking a double serve break immediately. The Japanese reeled off the first four games of the opening set, leading by 5-1. Her first serve percentage for the set was 72 and she clinched 100 per cent of her second
serve points.
Luzhanska held her serve for the second time in the seventh game, leaving Doi serving for the set at 5-2. The first set fell to the Japanese as she served out of it at 6-2.
A slight drop in the first serve percentage of Doi was seen in the following set that went from 72 per cent to 67 per cent. Her points winning proficiency remained the same as the first set.
No serve breaks were registered by the two contestants in the opening four games of the second set. The Japanese stung the first serve break in the fifth game, reaching 3-2. Both players held their serve in the next two games before Doi cracked her second
and most crucial break point in the ninth game, sealing the set at 6-3. Doi got six serve break chances in the set but she availed only two of them.
It proved an easy victory for Doi, but her next encounter in the second round will be against the fourth seed wildcard, Jarmila Groth of Australia. The Aussie defeated her Chinese opponent Shengnan Sun 7-6, 6-3 after a tough competition.
