Misaki Doi eases past Wen-Hsin Hsu to reach the quarter-finals – OEC Taipei WTA Ladies Open 2012
Japanese youngster, Misaki Doi, has limited trouble in breaking into the quarter-final rounds of the OEC Taipei WTA Ladies Open on Thursday. Seventh seeded Doi spent merely 71 minutes to hunt down the Taiwanese opponent, Wen-Hsin
Hsu, settling the final score line at 6-2, 6-3, in her favour.
It was already anticipated that the 104th ranked Japanese will come out as the winner in straight sets and the local crowd indeed witnessed the same. Doi had defeated Hsu twice in their past encounters and sustained
her clean sheet in Wednesday’s encounter. Her earlier two straight-sets victories came in the year 2009 and Hsu couldn’t come up with any better performance this time round as well.
Doi has a belligerent start to the opening set, breaking her opponent’s serve in the very first game and imposing a 2-0 lead right away. Hsu managed to hold her serve in the following two games before the seventh seeded Japanese
delivered another crucial blow in the seventh game to break into a 5-2 lead. The 21-year-old had no difficulty in serving out of the opening set and marked a 1-0 set score in the match.
Things didn’t change for the Taiwanese contender in the following set and she lost her serve once again in the opening game to go down 0-2. Hsu kept her fighting spirit high in the competition and didn’t allow her opponent any
further break points until the ninth game. Doi was leading 5-3 when her opponent served to stay in the match but the Japanese ace didn’t waste her opportunity and broke Hsu’s serve to wrap up victory at 6-3.
The Japanese winner delivered 74 per cent of her first serve on target and dropped merely five points on it in the entire contest, securing 24 out of 29 en route to victory. She crafted a total of 10 break opportunities in the
match but only four conversions proved sufficient for her to drive her bleak opponent out of the tournament comprehensively. On the other hand, Hsu could not even go closer to a serve break and was found lagging behind Doi all the time.
