Misbah bats for DRS – Cricket News Update
Pakistan skipper http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Misbah-ul-Haq-c1972 has reiterated his support for the controversial Umpire Decision Review System (UDRS), and has asked the International Cricket Council and its member boards to work towards a consistent usage of the technology
in all international cricket matches.
"The DRS is an effective tool to rectify any umpiring errors which mean a lot during tight and close matches," Misbah told reporters on Saturday, on his return home from Sri Lanka, following Test and ODI series defeats at the hands
of hosts.
"The ICC and cricket boards must work towards a unified DRS system for world cricket," the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755 skipper insisted.
Misbah has a reason to back the Decision Review System (DRS) after a number of decisions went against his side during the opening Test at Galle last month against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sri-Lanka-c758, eventually costing the Men In Green not only the match, but also the series.
Australia’s http://www.senore.com/Cricket/England-c56013 were guilty of giving a dozen of litigious decisions during the Galle Test, most of them going against the visiting team, which ultimately lost by a massive 209-run margin.
The Pakistan Cricket Board had also lodged a formal complaint over poor umpiring decisions in the opening game. This was the return leg of a bilateral series between Pakistan and Sri Lanka, the first part of which was hosted by Pakistan in the United Arab
Emirates, in October-November last year.
The SLC, being the home board had not used the UDRS technology in the series, although when Pakistan hosted them in the UAE, they had enforced the review system with the help of sponsors. It is also pertinent to mention here that the Sri Lankans did use
the technology when they hosted England in March this year.
The International Cricket Council in its board meeting, in Kuala Lumpur last month, also ruled against universal application of the DRS, with BCCI (Board of Control for Cricket in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/ICC-World-Cup-2011-c100625’s current stacne. The Indian board
and its players have been notable opponents to the review system, since its inception in 2009, questioning the accuracy of the technology a number of times.
Most of the other full member boards, and even umpires, have come out in support of a universal application of the technology in Tests and One Day Internationals.
