Misbah-ul-Haq defends Umar Akmal’s attacking cricket – Cricket News Update
Pakistan’s skipper http://www.senore.com/Cricket/United-Arab-Emirates-c3033 (UAE) on Monday,
November 14, 2011.
Akmal played brilliantly in that match and almost guided http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755 to a victory. However, he attempted to be over aggressive when the situation was quite under control and this cost him his wicket.
Ultimately, the Men in Green went onto lose the match by 25 runs, as they were all out for 210 runs in 46.3 overs.
Akmal top scored the innings and the match with 91 runs, but missed out on a century and a chance to win a match for the home team.
The youngster was criticised for throwing his wicket away at a crucial stage of the game, but is captain did not mind him playing his natural game.
According to Misbah, “It is Akmal's natural game to go after the bowling. He tried his best and almost won the match for us. After hitting three consecutive boundaries he should have gone for a single but sometimes despite being very confident a wrong shot
can bring you down. You make mistakes and that is part of cricket.”
Apart from praising the 21-year-old, Misbah went onto appreciate the effort of wicketkeeper batsman http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sarfraz-Ahmed-c88818 and all-rounder Shahid Afridi, who nearly gave a 2-0 lead to the team.
The 37-year-old said, “Akmal played a great knock. http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Shahid-Afridi-c2482 too performed well. These are all positives but we lacked luck in this match.”
Sarfraz contributed 24 runs to the total, but was unlucky to be given out leg before by http://www.senore.com/Cricket/England-c56013, as the replays clearly suggested that the ball would have missed the leg-stump.
Veteran Afridi came in at a time when wickets were continuously falling at the other end, but he gave his best towards the end of the innings.
The flamboyant cricketer smashed 29 runs off just 14 balls before he was run-out by the opposition’s skipper http://www.senore.com/Cricket/TM-Dilshan-c2691.
Pakistan certainly were out of luck in that match, as the tourists managed to level the series at 1-1 with three more games to go.
