Misbah-ul-Haq fit and ready to play for Pakistan – ICC World Cup 2011 Update
The Pakistan cricket team has taken a sigh of relief after its ace middle-order batsman http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Misbah-ul-Haq-c1972 returned to the nets on Tuesday after missing the practice session a day earlier due to a hospital visit for scans on his hamstring.
The 36-year-old looked brisk during the lengthy practice session, clobbering bowlers all over the park at free will. Misbah showed no signs of any injury and took part in the fielding session as well. Earlier it was feared that he had pulled a hamstring
which could have decommissioned him for a longer period of time during the ongoing ICC World Cup 2011. However, his presence in the practice session proved otherwise.
Talking to newsmen, after the practice session at the Premadasa Stadium, Sri Lanka he said, “I feel fine. They have been suspecting that I've pulled a hamstring but thankfully that's not the case. It was just a minor muscle problem and it's completely okay
now.”
Misbah, who was discarded by Pakistan selectors since last year, has become a very important part of the Pakistan team since his return in the national squad as the captain of Pakistan’s Test side nearly three months ago. He is the backbone of Pakistan's
middle-order batting line-up. Misbah, who at one point was not even being considered for the World Cup, has now hit back-to-back fifties against the African minnows http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Kenya-c752 and co-hosts Sri Lanka. So far the men in green have only played two matches in the mega
event, which is being hosted by http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Bangladesh-c747.
Misbah limped his way to an unbeaten 83 in Pakistan's overwhelming 11 run victory against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sri-Lanka-c758 last Saturday. Later, he had to undergo scans on Sunday for a suspected hamstring injury. However, the mild mannered batsman was cleared by the local physicians,
which means the he is available to play for http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Canada-c748. The match will be played at the Premadasa Stadium, Sri Lanka on Thursday.
The Pakistan Manager and former coach, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Intikhab-Alam-c64380, supported Misbah for not taking the risk during the encounter against the hosts and opted for a runner which helped in controlling the hamstring from worsening.
"He (Misbah) went for a runner the moment he felt the pain. He did the right thing because there was a chance that he could have injured himself had he went on without a runner in that match," said Intikhab, while talking to newsmen.
Nevertheless, it is expected that the Pakistan management would drop Misbah for the next match in order to give him enough time to recuperate.
Head coach Waqar Younis, announced that the playing eleven for the next encounter would be selected today, however the management is already thinking of resting the ace middle-order batsman for the next outing.
