Waqar, in his report, had described the middle-order batsman as an exemplary leader who leads from the front. The former pacer reckoned Misbah as a keen learner and a mature player.
"I have to give full credit to Misbah as he has stabilized the team and leads from the front," the head coach wrote in his report which was published in the Sunday edition of a leading Pakistan newspaper.
"His performance is also outstanding. He makes the boys very comfortable and relaxed so they actually enjoy their cricket. He is mature and willing to learn," he added further.
Misbah-ul-Haq, the 37-year old batsman from Mianwali, was given the charge of national Test team in October last year, after http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Salman-Butt-c2418 was suspended by the PCB due to his involvement in the spot-fixing case.
Butt was appointed as the Test captain after Afridi announced retirement from Test cricket in July last year, following a defeat against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746 at Lord’s.
Since Afridi had retired from Test cricket but was still playing in the ODI and T20 format of game, he was retained as the limited overs captain.
However, in May this year, the Pakistan Cricket Board http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Ijaz-Butt-c64128, appointed Misbah as the One-Day captain as well, following Afridi’s media outburst after the Caribbean tour.
Since his appointment as Pakistan cricket team’s Test captain, Misbah has been in his peak form. He has led Pakistan in three Test series so far - against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/New-Zealand-c754 and West Indies – and has scored seven half centuries and a century in eleven
innings. Off the three Test series, Pakistan has won one against New Zealand by 1-0 while the rest of the two were drawn.
The growing age of the veteran middle-order batsman is his one unfortunate factor and the Pakistan coach agreed with the fact and advised the board to start grooming some http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Young-c98322 captain for the next World Cup from now.
"On that account I don't think he would be able to lead the side in the next World Cup and there I would advise the board that we should start grooming http://www.senore.com/Cricket/A-Young-c41367 captain from now," the former Pakistan skipper had suggested in his report.
Misbah debuted in the Test format in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/March-c74391 2001 and has so far played 25 Test compiling 1640 runs at an average of 44.32, including three centuries and 11 fifties. The right-handed batsman averages 42.78 in the ODI format of the game with a tally of 2225
runs from 78 games.
