Misbah-ul-Haq opposes the idea of three separate teams – Cricket News Update
Pakistan national team skipper, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Misbah-ul-Haq-c1972, has discarded the idea of forming three separate teams for each format of the game, claiming that the desired results can be achieved with a couple of necessary changes.
“Three to four changes can be made and are necessary. But changing an entire line-up of 11 or 15 players can’t be done,” said the right-hand batsman, while talking to
The Express Tribune.
The row of having separate teams was raised after the 0-4 defeat of the national team by http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Abdul-Qadir-c41605, former chief selector PCB, Mohammad
Illyas and the current head of the national selection panel, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mohammad-Iqbal-Qasim-c76980.
“Having specialists for each format with only a few players playing in all forms is a good idea and can help http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755 progress well,” said Qasim.
However, going by the Men in Green’s recent performances, that notion has little backing. Apart from the limited-overs ( ODIs and T20s) defeat against England, Pakistan have been highly successful in the last 12 months, which includes series triumphs against
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sri-Lanka-c758 and Bangladesh, along with a 3-0 Test win against the No.1 ranked Poms, in January this year.
Most recently, the team lifted the Asia Cup 2012 after beating hosts http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Bangladesh-c747 in the final. Despite such impressive numbers, it is the defensive approach of Misbah, which has been scrutinized by many, all of whom believe that he should be replaced at least
in the ODI and T20 arena in favour of a younger captain.
The 37-year-old batsman, who has a winning percentage of 73.91 in ODIs and 60 in Tests, remains motivated to prove his critics wrong and believes that he can still lead the team in all formats of the game, provided given long-term backing by the Cricket
Board.
“I don’t want to just play Test cricket. I want to lead the team at the World Twenty20 as well. As far as people calling my batting style defensive is concerned, I play according to the situation. I’m the captain and I have an added responsibility,” said
a defiant Misbah.
