Pakistani skipper, Misbah-ul- Haq has praised comeback veteran, Shahid Afridi for his match winning display in the opening One Day International against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sri-Lanka-c758.
The flamboyant all-rounder was in the thick of the action, bagging a three-wicket haul to help his team dismiss their opponents on a sub-par 130. This allowed the Men In Green to chase down the total in just 21.5 overs with http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Imran-Farhat-c64218 both
making half-centuries.
Afridi was deservedly presented with the Player of Match accolade, which led Misbah to show his gratitude towards a key member of the team.
"http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Shahid-Afridi-c2482 is a matchwinner and he proved that today," Misbah said. "He came on when we needed wickets and also needed to keep the runs down. He bowled a wicket-to-wicket line, didn't give away runs and also made key breakthroughs. He's started his comeback
well and I hope he continues to perform."
The leg-spinner came on to bowl his first over and was greeted with massive cheers from the Dubai crowd and he immediately replied with the wicket of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/LD-Chandimal-c1831. After being hammered for a six, Afridi produced a snorter of a delivery, which hurried
on and caught Chandimal plumb in front of the stumps.
He then kept the scoring rate tight, giving no room to the likes of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/AD-Mathews-c913, which kept the pressure to mount on. His endeavours were than further rewarded when he claimed the final two scalps, which ended the resilience of
the Lankans.
Misbah also highlighted the efforts of his opening bowlers, who bowled to an excellent line and length which helped his spinners to assert their dominance to the proceedings.
“The pitch played well and was the same across both innings. Credit goes to our bowlers. We pressurised them right from the start by being disciplined with the ball. The seamers were disciplined early and then the spinners came on and did really well."
The next one-dayer will be played on the 14th of November, and the Men In Green contingent will be looking for another perfect display from their confident all-rounder.
