Misbah-ul-Haq receives support from former players – Cricket News Update
Former Pakistani greats, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Misbah-ul-Haq-c1972, after the national team lost their current ODI series against England, 4-0.
The skipper has attracted widespread criticism for his passive captaincy, which was effective during the Test series, leading his side to a 3-0 clean sweep, but it failed to yield results in the shorter format of the game.
Ex-pacer http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Waqar-Younis-Maitla-c96193 in particular, have slammed Misbah for his lack of aggression on-field, saying he was unable to get the best out of his players, nor could he lead or direct them towards victory.
However, Pakistan’s legendary former captain, Imran Khan, expressed his support for the skipper, saying it was unwise to have a knee-jerk reaction to the current defeats.
"Misbah needs to show more aggression but its early to write him off," said http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Khan-c71319. "Misbah must bat up the order to get good totals."
He also rubbished the suggestions that the Men I\in Green needed a separate captain for each format of the game.
"If one captain is doing well in all three forms of the game then there is no use having separate captains," the retired star all-rounder pointed out.
Former spinner, Iqbal Qasim, also had words of support for the 37-year-old captain.
"He has committed some mistakes but we should back him," he said, going on to observe that the team had become too relaxed following their 3-0 series sweep.
Both greats offered constructive advice on how the team could turn their game around. Khan advocated “depth in bowling and batting,” while Qasim suggested that there was a need to “designate some players for Tests, some for one-day and some for Twenty20
because this has proved beneficial for other teams.”
With pressure mounting on the hosts, it remains to be seen whether they can counter the threat offered by the likes http://www.senore.com/Cricket/KP-Pietersen-c1806 who scored successive centuries, which lead his side to a convincing ODI series clean sweep.
With the T20 fixtures between the two countries due to start today, Misbah needs to ensure that his team works hard on rectifying their mistakes, and draft an efficient game plan which further helps him in silencing his doubters.
