Misbun Ramdan Misbun claims Men’s Singles crown in 2012 Maybank National Circuit Pahang Open
The young but talented shuttler Misbun Ramdan Bin Mohmed Misbun grabbed all the attention by outshining Mohamad Arif Abdul Latif in the title match of Maybank National Circuit Pahang Open on October 12, 2012.
This Men’s Singles final encounter lasted for 31 minutes before ending with concluding margin of 21-18 and 21-18.
The local badminton arena of Kuantan, Malaysia was filled to the brim as a huge crowd assembled to encourage the national campaigners.
Misbun Ramdan, who was fourth seeded player of this tournament, played with great precision and sealed a splendid straight-set victory.
On the other hand, Arif Latif lost the grand finale despite of being hot favourite for this title. He could not utilise his brilliance in the game and drew a blank.
First sign of trouble came when he failed to stand in front of Misbun’s intensive attack and remained at the lower end until final moments of the first set.
World Number 40 shuttler Arif looked completely off colour as he dropped many valuable points straight away in the beginning.
The opposing player did not miss this opportunity and established an unassailable lead with a mountainous total of 11.
Though, Misbun made some serious mistakes immediately after the interval but still he managed to maintain a decent edge all the way to game point situation.
He made the difference by registering 18-15 score on the board and then left his higher ranked challenger far behind with a staggering knock of 21-18.
The spectators were expecting Arif to bounce back in the following game but Misbun Ramdan buried their hopes.
He relished full benefits of his first set win and kept his opponent under pressure throughout the second set.
He laid the foundation of his dominance with four uninterrupted points and then doubled the impact with 9-4 margin.
This initial lead gave Misbun a real boost and he kept on moving forward without any trouble. He finished the first half of the set with the upper hand in 11-5 total and capitalised this advantage in the ending part of the game.
Though, Arif showed some spark by prevailing in nine successive rallies after 9-19 but it was not enough to stop Misbun who raised his hands as champion by putting up a decisive figure of 21-18.
