Misbun Ramdan Misbun wants to improve his physical fitness and mental strength, Badminton news
Malaysia’s young player Misbun Ramdan Misbun said that he needs to improve his physical fitness and mental strength to elevate his game. He said this after losing his match against Tommy Sugiarto of Indonesia in the first leg of semi-final at Axiata Cup 2012 on Saturday, March 31, in Malaysia.
Misbun, who was playing from Malaysia Leopards in Axiata Cup, could not live up to expectations and lost in straight games to the World Number 16 Sugiarto, who is representing Indonesia Rajawali.
The young Malaysian has the potential which is required to become a world beater. However, the lack of experience and exposure became a major reason of his defeat from the hands of his Indonesian rival.
After the match Misbun said, "I need to improve on my physical and mental strength. Tommy is experienced and I could not cope with the pace of the game despite having the upper hand in the second game."
He further added, "I must also learn not to be in too much of a hurry to finish the game off as that led to me making too many unforced errors. He is an experienced player and found ways to counter my shots."
In the opening set, Sugiarto played composed game without executing hasty shots. He was focused in the court and forced his young opponent to make unforced errors
Misbun played with impressive speed but he was lacking patience and on many occasions played wrong shots without waiting for the lose return.
He had to pay the price for his wrong shot selection which helped his Indonesian rival to get stronger in the game.
Sugiarto did not show any sign of urgency in the opening game and remained in complete control throughout the set and won it with a decent 21-17 score on the board.
In the second game, Misbun showed his brilliance in the opening rallies and took an impressive lead of 8-2. However, he failed to maintain his supremacy in the game as his opponent started to inject more power in his strokes.
Sugiarto played fast badminton and managed to end his rival’s lead. He remained on track in the whole concluding part of second set and won it with a 21-16 score on the board.
Sugiarto emerged as the winner of this fight with a decent difference of 21-17 and 21-16.
