Misbun Ramdan determined to step up in near future – Badminton News
The spirited young shuttler of Malaysia, Misbun Ramdan Misbun has performed beyond expectations in recent past and now he is confident to shine in the near future.
National back-up Singles player comes from a family of badminton legends “Sidek brothers” and he is son of former Singles chief coach Misbun Sidek.
Though, Misbun Ramdan is still struggling to register his presence in the arena but he has proved his mettle in the recently concluded French International event where he stood on second position in the victory stand.
World Number 83 shuttler has elevated his status from 183rd position with his consistent performance throughout last season and now he is aiming to force an entry in top 30 players of the world by the end of this year.
Now, Misbun Ramdan is in high spirits to prove himself the true successor not only of Sidek family but also of Malaysian maestro Lee Chong Wei. He vows to become an eligible member of national squad in the next couple of years.
He said, “It’s time for me to step up and be ready to take over the mantle of national No. 1 soon. I hope to be a key member of the team in 2014.”
So far, the 21-year-old shuttler covered all the distance under the supervision of his father Misbun Sidek but now he has been invited by national body to train under former World Champion Hendrawan with other back-up shuttlers Zulfadli Zulkifli and Iskandar
Zulkarnain.
Misbun Ramdan gave all the credit of his improvement to his father and badminton guru Hendrawan. He stated that his mentors have been watching his steps during his improved run at international level.
He said, “The most significant change is my physical condition. Hendrawan has really put a lot of emphasis in this area. My father doesn’t coach me anymore but he never fails to give me tips.”
The Malaysian lad also has been nominated as sparring partner with Goh Soon Huat in national training camp for the Thomas Cup Finals.
Misbun Ramdan looked excited over his selection as he stated that practicing with top national player in Dongguan will be great opportunity for him to elevate his craft.
At the moment, he is swinging arms in Malaysia Open where he has reserved his spot in second round of the event.
