The spirited but inexperienced Misbun could not match his rival’s skills and surrendered after reading decisive figure of 21-15 and 21-16.
On the other hand, the Chinese campaigner played with great conviction and did not show any sign of confusion throughout this battle.
In first set of the match, Chen Yuekun laid foundation of his supremacy with a brisk attack and then served notice of his dominance with an unbeatable strategy in the following game.
The battle heated up straight away in the beginning of opening game as the Chinese shuttler unleashed a flurry of power packed strokes and earned many valuable points.
He did not squander this opportunity and strengthened his grip by prevailing in next couple of rallies.
This aggressive approach yielded favourable result and he managed to finish first half of the set with a significant total of 11.
After the mid-game break, the Malaysian challenger put an extra effort to counterbalance the situation but he could not tip the scale in his favour.
Misbun Ramdan made many fatal mistakes in the final moments and this ultimately cost him a valuable match point. He lost first set with a deficit of six points in 21-15 margin.
The second set was not much different as it was also dominated by Chen Yuekun who silenced the local crowd with a thundering performance.
This time he took some time to get on right track but then a strong backlash turned his rival’s plans into dust.
The Chinese shuttler showed great maturity in his craft and established an upper hand way before the interval. He did not lose grip even in latter part of the game and registered an impressive win.
Meanwhile, Misbun Ramdan failed to end his bad patch and crashed out of the home event after receiving a shameful defeat of 16-21.
