Misbun Ramdan remains focused to train with national team under the supervision of Hendrawan
Malaysia’s junior shuttler, Misbun Ramdan, who is also the son of the former national coach of Men’s Singles, Misbun Sidek, remains focused to train with the national team, under the supervision of the Indonesian coach, Hendrawan.
Misbun Sidek has turned down the offer to train the back-up players, represented by the Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM). The coach leaves the national squad, but his son continues to work with Hendrawan and is ready to shine in the upcoming event
of Malaysia Open GP Gold, starting from May 3, at Alor Setar, Malaysia.
If Misbun Sidek had signed the coaching contract, his son, Ramdan, would have been given under his supervision.
“My dad has made a decision not to take up the offer (BAM’s new contract) and, I guess, he knows best. We did not discuss anything about my badminton career,” said Ramdan.
He also added, “For now, I will continue training under Hendrawan. I have learnt a lot in training and I have good sparring partners.”
The 18-year-old player is determined to become the top shuttler of Malaysia in a period of two years. He revealed that his father has given him a two-year time to get a certain level of skills and he believes that he has the potential to achieve his target
in this period under the patronage of Hendrawan.
In the Malaysia Open GP Gold, Ramdan will start his campaign against Yan Kit Chan, who is the top seed in Hong Kong. The Malaysian is optimistic to perform well against the senior opponent. If he manages to win the first round against the top shuttler of
Hong Kong, it will be a superb start for him at international level.
The youngster is placed in the upper half of the Men’s Singles draw. The number one seed, Lee Chong Wei of Malaysia, Chen Jin of China, Simon Santoso of Indonesia and Park Sung Hwan of Korea will also be fighting in the same half of the draw.
Ramdan said that he has learnt a lot from the current coach, Hendrawan, and is determined to deliver well in all future events.
