Misbun Sidek agrees to groom the second strength of National squad, including his son: Badminton News
Misbun Sidek, the former national coach of men’s singles, has agreed to groom the second strength of National squad for men’s singles, including Misbun Ramdan Misbun, who is the younger son of the coach. The names of the other players under Misbun’s charge will be announced in the meeting of Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM), which will be held on Thursday, April 28.
BAM allowed Misbun to coach Ramdan, but also hopes that the selection of the players for different events will be made on fair basis. Nadzmi Mohd. Salleh, the president of BAM said that the Training and Coaching Committee will examine the performance of every shuttler very closely and their performance in the training sessions will determine their participation in various local and foreign tournaments.
“If Misbun gets to coach his son, questions may arise on selection. A coach can assess and select players for international tournaments but the final say is with the coaching and training committee,” Nadzmi said.
He further added, “We will ensure that equal treatment is given to all players. We surely do not want to practice nepotism.”
Nadzmi further said that the performance of all coaches will be evaluated fairly through a proper procedure and the same rule applies to Misbun as he will also be coaching his son along with other shuttlers. The president also added that the BAM has confidence in Misbun that the coach will produce best shuttlers without any discrimination.
Misbun resigned from his duties on December 31, 2010. However, he withdrew from this decision and resumed his designation after three months. Prior to his resignation, he was the official coach of the world number one, Lee Chong Wei. But now he is assigned the task to work with young shuttlers as Chong Wei is working under the supervision of his new coach, Teh Seu Bock.
Misbun has extensive experience of more than two decades in the field of badminton coaching. He has produced many elite players, including the current world number one, Chong Wei. Now he is assigned the challenging task to upgrade the level of young shuttlers to produce world class players.
