Misbun Sidek keeps the Badminton Association of Malaysia in doubt
Misbun Sidek, the former coach of men’s singles in Malaysia, keeps the officials of Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) in doubt about his resuming the job as a coach of the national squad. Misbun resigned from his duties on 31st
December, 2010, due to some wrong decisions taken by the officials of BAM. Prior to his resignation, he was coaching the world number one Malaysian shuttler, Lee Choong Wei.
Misbun has been serving the country for the last 20 years. He has produced many quality players who have been considered among the top shuttlers in the world of Badminton. Chong Wei is also one such player that remained under the supervision of Misbun for
several years. The coach worked hard to take the shuttler to the World number 1 spot. Chong Wei is enjoying the top spot in the world ranking of men’s single, for the last three years.
BAM is trying to bring Misbun back as bigger challenges are there for Malaysia in the arena of Badminton. Apart from Chong Wei, there is no other men’s singles player who can match the skills of the top athletes in the world. No Malaysian shuttler has ever
won the title of the World Championships or Olympics. Chong Wei is the only hope for the BAM to win the title of BWF World Championships 2011, which will be held in August, at Wembley, London.
Misbun and Chong Wei have a good understanding as both of them have been working together for the last several years. The world number one shuttler has grabbed many major events throughout the whole world. In the absence of his former coach, Chong Wei is
working under the supervision of Rashid Sidek and Tey Seu Bock. The issue of Misbun’s coaching will be resolved in the meeting of BAM, which is going to be held on 1st April.
The Director General of National Sports Council (NSC), Mr. Zolkples Embong said about Chong Wei “He is training well under Seu Bock. If Misbun does not return, I will ask him whether he needs a new coach or whether he is happy with the current arrangements.”
Because of the positive and constructive thinking and prolonged services of Misbun, all Badminton fans in Malaysia desperately want him back as a singles coach for the national squad.
Misbun is quite silent on the issue and is not event responding to BAM about his further plans. The officials have decided that if Misbun doesn’t reveal his plan till 1st April, then his resignation will be accepted and other options will be considered
to fill the place left by Misbun. If the coach resumes his duties, Malaysia will have a great chance to win the singles title in the BWF World Championships 2011 and also in the 2012 London Olympics Games.
