Misbun Sidek will work to strengthen Malaysia's mens singles back-up players
Misbun Sidek, coach of Malaysia's men’s singles national squad, will work on the back-up shuttlers to elevate them in order for them to replace Lee Chong Wei, who will quit from professional badminton after the 2012 London Olympics. After spending three
months away from the arena, Misbun withdrew his resignation and will now work under the new contract. He has accepted an extremely challenging task to produce another Chong Wei from pool of young shuttlers.
Misbun has been working with Chong Wei for the last five years. The coach enhanced the physical and mental skills of the world number one and also made him a complete player in all aspects of the game. Chong Wei has now achieved a certain level of maturity
in his play and can handle situations with a lot more composure and mental strength.
The Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) decided to engage Misbun with the young back-up players and Chong Wei. These young players have not yet produced any remarkable performances in the world of Badminton and the gap between Chong Wei and the rest
of the singles players is gradually increasing. The dearth of good players in men’s singles is quite alarming for BAM as there will be no player in the top 10 after Chong Wei's retirement from the international arena next year.
Currently, Malaysia have only one shuttler in the form of Chong Wei in the world top 20 rankings. Misbun played the central role to take Chong Wei at the apex of success and glory. Now the time and conditions of badminton in Malaysia demand another shuttler
who could grab the top spot in men’s singles.
Chong Wei believes that Misbun will definitely produce better players as he is one of the best coaches in the world of Badminton. Misbun will now work on back-up players and will try to make them ready to compete well in the 2012 Olympic Games. The training
program is being finalized and it will be put into practice next week.
