Question:

Miscarriage Question for those who have been there??

On July 28 I started bleeding. I went to the ER and they did the blood test and ultrasound. Everything was okay, there was a heartbeat and my hormones were where they were supposed to be. I did a followup with the doctor the next week where they did another ultrasound and there was no longer a heartbeat. He gave me the option of trying to pass it naturally or a D&C and I choose to do it naturally. Well here it 3 weeks from when I first started bleeding and I passed a whole bunch of tissue over a week ago. They did another blood test when I passed that bunch and I had only gone from 2000 to 1700 from my ER visit to when I passed the tissues which was a 2 week time frame. I am still bleeding just as much as I was when I was in the doctors office after passing the bunch of stuff.

So my question is for those that tried to pass it naturally, how long did you bleed?

  1. I had a miscarriage at 7 weeks and passed everything naturally, I only bled for about a 5 days and within 2 weeks I was pregnant again but my doc said I was a quick recovery. I don't think that it is normal to be bleeding still 3 weeks after you started, I would be in touch with my doctor if I were you, it could be that something is not progressing the way it should. Just remember that everyone is different and that no one on here is necessarily qualified to answer medical questions like this one-be sure to call your doctor. And Good Luck, I know how painful it is, emotionally and physically.

  2. I had two miscarriages.  One at twelve weeks and one at six weeks.  The one at twelve weeks hurt really bad.  I bled for about six weeks.  I sat on the toilet and a little sack with a tiny itty bitty baby came out.  It had all its fingers, toes, everything.  With the second one at six weeks I bled for about three weeks.  My body passed both of them naturally.  It hurt like labor with the first.  The second was more like the worst period ever.  I did not take any pills or need a D&C or anything.  It does not always happen this way though.  Sometimes the body does not pass all the baby out and you need a D&C to get it all out.

  3. I am so sorry for your loss...

I had a m/c in December and I was given the option of a D&C or Tablets... I decided to take the tablets and go home. The first lot of tabs didnt have any affect so the following week I was given more tabs to take.. I eventually started bleeding that evening..

It was awful and very intense and I ended up going to hospital in the early hours because the bleeding was getting alot worse! After another u/s the following day, I was told it was a complete m/c.

Again I am so sorry for your loss!

  4. I'm not sure how helpful this is but when I had a MC at 7 1/2 weeks I bled for two days before the mass passed and then bled for about a week after. I've been told the further along you were the longer you'll bleed.

  5. I am so sorry you have to go through this. I know how painful it is emotionally and physically.

I had miscarried last month on the 9th. For me I had light spotting that started late on the 6th and I also went to the hospital early the next morning and they did an ultrasound and blood work and told me everything "looked" fine but it all went down hill from there and by the time I got home from the hospital I was bleeding and passing tissue. I actually went to work the next day and by the time I got home around 9:30pm I was in severe pain and heavy bleeding and then I went through contractions starting at about 4am went to the hospital around 6 and my water actually broke and my body expelled the baby. The bleeding had finally stopped on the 21st, getting a bit lighter after the first week. So the bleeding from start to finish lasted about 2 weeks and I found that after everything had passed was when the bleeding was the worse.

  6. i had the same thing and triedfor a month to pass it normally but it was too hard i would geta d&c done . if you dont you may bleed for another 3 weeks honestly its hard to tell how long . goodluck

  7. I opted for pills to make it happen a LOT faster... but my cousin bled for 3 1/2 weeks... I'm sorry for your loss, I hope things get better

  8. This sounds like it's gone on too long - I would go get the D&C if I were you. You could become anemic (easy to do) or could still have the possiblilty of hemorrhage.

I had 2 miscarriages (almost died with one) and I always went to ER and had a D&C. It is so much safer. If any tissue is left inside, you can get an infection. Not to mention, the anemia issue. 3 weeks is too long.

  9. i personally tried the naturally thing first because i was in denial hard but the pain was just to intense for me to handle i went to the hospital (without insurance) and got sent home bleeding violently...still in pain my mom came and we got insurance and i had the dnc which was a very good idea after the dnc i bled lightly for about a 1 week then i was all clear the dnc also makes sure everything that needs to be is removed so the risk of infection is like 0 so go to ur doctor and ask for a dnc thats the best idea and i know this is really hard for u please stay strong and just cuz u had one dosnt mean they will continue i misscarried in oct of 06 now ne day i am expecting my son to arrive so stay up and god bless

  10. I also started spotting July 27 (almost 19 wks pg), went to the dr. the 28th to be checked out, found out there was no heartbeat.  They scheduled me for a D&C for noon the next day, but at 2 am that morning I woke up with contractions and heavy bleeding.  Made it to the ER by 5- my water broke on the way and the baby passed into my underwear.  It was only developed to the size of a 14 week fetus, but was fully formed.  We are having it tested for chromosomal problems, and to know the s*x b/c you couldn' t tell.

I bled for about a week, and had a follow up appt. a week later, but they did not test hcg levels.  The dr. did say it was much better on your body to pass it naturally than to have the D&C but if you are still bleeding, you might want to ask the dr. about any options to reduce it.  How far along were you?  That might depend on how long you bleed, but then again, I was 19 weeks and only bled a week, so ???

  11. Firstly, I'm so sorry you are going through this.  ((Hugs)).

I miscarried naturally, and I bled for about a week.     I had a day or two of spotting, then one night of extremely heavy bleeding & clots.   After that one night, it slowed down to what seemed like a normal period.

It sounds like you may need to go back to your doctor as you may have retained some of the tissue.

    ((Hugs)) again.

  12. I'm sorry hun for what your going through i had a natural miscarriage at 9 weeks in april this year and i bled for 5 days then it turned brown and stopped completely.

I would go back to the docs it could be you have retained some of the pregnancy and that is why your bleeding still,

  13. i only bled for one whole day but i bled a lot...maybe because i was only 6 weeks im not sure..

  14. it really shouldnt last weeks. i would maybe go back in and get an internal done...i hope you dont have to get a d&c done, they are kinda painfull. im sorry for the loss.

  15. I opted for the d&c just to avoid all the questions like yours.  I would know that it was over and done with.  MY Dr also told me that it would clear out all the old stuff in my utuerus, and make it a better host for a future pregnancy.  If you are still bleeding heavily, there could still be tissue left behind, and they will give you a d&c

  16. To start off, I am so sorry for your loss. Just keep your faith up, and it will happen again for you. But to answer your question, when i miscarried with twins at 10 weeks, i bled for about 2 weeks altogether.

I opted for the pill, but it actually started to pass naturally. I passed 2 clots over the course of 3 days, and just had what seemed like a heavy period for about 5-6 more days.

Once again, sorry for your loss
