Mischa Zverev, David Goffin advance to the title match – Orange Open 2012
Mischa Zverev beats Olivier Rochus 6-4, 6-4
World number 220, Mischa Zverev of Germany, continued with his supreme form, as he upset the top seed, Olivier Rochus, in twin sets 6-4, 6-4 in the semi-final at the Orange Open in Guadeloupe, France on Saturday.
Zverev and Rochus did not lose their serve in the first eight games of the opener to take the score to 4-4. The German made a breakthrough in the next one and served it out at 5-4.
The Monte-Carlo, Monaco resident won the first set despite committing four double faults. Zverev did very well on the first serves and second returns, claiming 14 of the 17 and seven of the 13 points on them respectively.
The German struck in the opening game of the second set and consolidated on it to grab a 2-0 lead. The left-hander maintained the advantage till the end and captured it 6-4.
Zverev got rid of his woes on the second serve, as he did not hit any double fault and impressively bagged six of the eight points on them.
The German required just an hour and 22 minutes to come out victorious from the match.
Zverev is drawn to play world number 148, David Goffin, in the title match.
David Goffin defeats Edouard Roger-Vasselin 7-5, 6-4
Making second upset of the day, Belgium’s David Goffin overcame fourth seed, Edouard Roger-Vasselin of France, in straight sets 7-5, 6-4 to secure his place in the final. It took the Belgian an hour and 49 minutes to topple Roger-Vasselin.
Goffin and Roger-Vasselin swapped a blow in the first 10 games of the opening set, levelling the score at 5-5. The Belgian snatched a break in the eleventh game and made the most of it to win 7-5.
He pounded two aces and 67 percent of the first serves, converting 16 of the 22 of them into points. The right-hander capitalised on two of the nine break chance he received and saved one of the two threats he came across in the
opener.
Both players lost their serve at the start of the second set to even out the score at 1-1. Goffin struck again in the seventh game and took full advantage to seal it 6-4.
The Belgian was too erratic on the second serve, as he delivered five double faults. However, he dominated with the help of his ground strokes and volleys.
This will be the first meeting between Goffin and Zverev. They have not met each other at any level of professional tennis before.
