Israel’s Misha Zilberman continued his successful run in Russia Open Grand Prix tournament and overpowered Anatoliy Yartsev to make to the quarter-finals on June 28, 2012.
This second round match remained in full swing for 44 minutes and both shuttlers gave each other tough competition while compiling final result of 14-21, 21-19 and 17-21.
Men’s Singles expert Misha is now scheduled to meet Japanese campaigner Kazumasa Sakai en-route to the semi-final round of the event.
The Israeli shuttler, who is also ranked second in this tournament, will employ all of his brilliance and experience to land on the podium.
Earlier in pre quarter-final round, he played with great conviction and outclassed his opponent in opening and closing segments of the show while the opposing shuttler could only grab second set of the match.
Misha Zilberman set the ball rolling by stamping supremacy straight away in the first set. He built pressure by clinching six vital points without any interruption after 4-4. This relentless drive helped him to place a significant total of 11-5 before the
interval.
After one-minute break, he did not drop this pace and maintained an upper hand until last moment. He won a vital match point with 21-14 margin on the board.
The following game was full of drama as at one stage Misha was in commanding position to transform his 1-0 lead into a straight-set win but the local shuttler turned his plan into dust.
This time Anatoliy Yartsev did not disappoint his spectators and gave them something to cheer by levelling the match score.
Though, he remained at the lower end in most part of the game but still managed to rise on his toes in the final moments.
He perked up after 11-17 and made swift progress to catch his competitor at 18-18. He showed strong character at this critical stage and finished this race with decisive figure of 21-19.
However, he could not carry this momentum in the decider as Misha came in his way to glory and put his expedition to an end.
The Israeli emerged as Champion after wrapping the show with concluding margin of 21-17. It was a brilliant performance by Misha and he will be looking to put in a good performance in the quarter-finals.
