Mismanagement of PBSI brought harm to Badminton in Indonesia, says former player Ivana Lie
Indonesia’s former legendary shuttler Ivana Lie showed her annoyance over the bad performance of Indonesian Badminton Association (PBSI) in promoting the badminton and also said that the mismanagement in the governing body is harming the sport and taking
it down in all aspects.
Ivana, who with her partner Christian Hadinata won the Mixed Doubles titles in Asian Games 1982 and World Cup in 1983, also criticised the worst performance of national team in last week’s Thomas Cup Finals 2012 where Indonesian lost to Japan at the quarter-final
stage.
She also showed her concern over the fact that under the chairmanship of Djoko Santoso, it was very hard for the former shuttlers to give their suggestions as their expert opinion remained unable to get the attention of the chairman and eventually the badminton
in Indonesia is on a consistent decline.
Ivana said that it is the mismanagement on the part of PBSI that resulted in the poor performance of shuttlers.
According to her, PBSI’s bad policies failed to find fresh blood in junior category and also remained unable to promote badminton in the country.
Ivana also criticised on the decision of appointing a foreign coach directly as according to her it should be allowed by the sports development division. But in reality, the decision was not taken by this responsible body.
She said, “There’s so much mismanagement within the PBSI. For example, the action of directly appointing a foreign coach: It should be under sports development division, but in reality, it wasn’t.”
The Mixed Doubles national coach Richard Mainaky said that the training camp in Cipayung is not more a place to train with concentration as there can be seen many outsiders even during the camp.
He said, “Too many outsiders come to the camp.”
Another former great player Imelda Wiguna said that the current situation of badminton in Indonesia seems very sick and alarming at the same time.
Ivana blamed the mismanagement of PBSI in policy making and its implementations as according to her the bad governance of the governing body has brought such embarrassment to the badminton of Indonesia.
