Misplaced Fortune seeking to retain her title in the Arkle Finance Fillies’ Handicap
The Class 3 Arkle Finance Fillies’ Handicap has brought back the rivalry of the 2011 edition of the race, Misplaced Fortune and Jade. They will get accompanied by eight other three-year-old and above contenders over the six furlongs at Pontefract on Thursday, 20th September. The winner of the race has been promised £6,412 prize money.
Last year, the Nigel Tinkler trained favourite entry, Misplaced Fortune, took down Jade by half-length in the six furlong handicap. The winner had Dale Swift onboard while Jade was guided through the track distance by jockey, Graham Gibbons.
Compton Place’s seven-year-old bay mare, Misplaced Fortune, was entered as the favourite entry last time and retains the preference for the Handicap to date. The contestants of the race have gone down by two this year. Last year’s winner raced out of the sixth post and was followed by the fourth gate, Jade.
Lucky Misplaced Fortune has not only sustained the popularity, the W. F. Burton owned has also drawn the same number that she broke from the last time, and to top all of that, the bay mare gets to enjoy the company of the same team with Dale Swift riding her once again.
The 7 to 2 entry has raced eight times ever since the new season kick started, but has been able to credit only one race against her name.
She claimed the C.B. Hutchinson Memorial Challenge Cup (Fillies’ Handicap) on 20th May, 2012 at Ripon over six furlongs. The seven-year-old did not fall into a high pace right after racing from the sixth gate, however with the final furlong on the horizon, she burst into speed and defeated the favourite entry, Hallelujah, by a length’s mark.
The distance today is same over which she won the last time.
The 9 to 1 entry, Jade, trained by, Ollie Pears, has been active four times ever since the 2012 campaign cracked open. Out of the four starts, the four-year-old bay filly was able to bag just one of the outings.
She too won a race over six furlongs at Nottingham on 17th August, 2012.
Jade will become the mount for jockey, Michael O’Connell, and the duo will race out of the third stall.
