Miss Cato to steer the Lord Weinstock Memorial Stakes her way at Newbury
Newbury will host the Class 1 Lord Weinstock Memorial Stakes (Registered As The Ballymacoll Stud Stakes) (Listed Race) (Fillies) over a mile, two furlongs and six yards on Thursday, 14th June. Competing for the £18,714 prize money is a line-up
of seven runners. Not all of them have the racing experience associated to Newbury and only one out of all the contestants has been successful there.
Inchina, Montjeu’s three-year-old bay filly out of mare, Incheni, had her seasonal debut in the Whitley Stud Maiden Fillies’ Stakes (Division II) on 20th April over a mile and two furlongs.
She won as the 2/1 favourite of the race while riding with James Doyle and the two led the runner up, Red Hand, by just half a length. Winning the race was a challenge which she did not only accept but over came too.
Coming at terms with the third position was Safarjal.
Her most recent try was a dreadful failure but she does have chances for making the most out of her second seasonal try at Newbury.
Another note worthy entry for the race is Miss Cato, Notnowcato’s three-year-old chestnut filly out of mare, Regal Fairy. She has raced six times during the season which actually marks out to be her debut season too.
The three-year-old started it off with clearing the New Year At Southwell Golf Club Selling Stakes on 1st January at Southwell over a mile. She won by 1 ¼ lengths’ lead while riding with William Carson.
Finishing the closest was Samasana while filling up the third spot was the 5/4 favourite of the race, Spartilla.
She then held a firm grip on the Follow Southwell On Twitter Handicap on 24th January at Southwell over a mile. Once again she was paired up with William Carson and the two led the 4/7 favourite of the race, Moataz, by four lengths.
Her most recent success was in the Fernox Fillies’ Handicap on 24th May at Sandown over a mile and a furlong. The 7/2 joint favourite winner led the other joint favourite of the race, Cresta Star, by 3 ¾ lengths.
She has not raced at Newbury before but four races under belt out of six starts is not a disappointing rate to move on with.
