Question:

Missed periods and weight gain?

I've been missing quite a few menstrual periods [I got one in February and then in may, but haven't had one since and it's just about September]. I've also been gaining alot of weight, I haven't kept records of my weight, but it's noticeable to me. And I just noticed how high my weight got. I'm about 5'6 and 180 lbs. but I was 120 or 130 throughout high school and I am now in my second year of college. I didn't really change my eating habits, and if anything I started exercising [a little] more. I took a pregnancy test this morning [I also took a few at intervals since february] and I'm not pregnant. and I haven't had s*x in about three weeks. My irregular periods is what I'm most worried about, but I'm thinking my weight gain might be tied in. Any suggestions on what might be happening? Or should I just go to my doctor?

  1. Although it's rare. go to your Dr and ask if you should be evaluated for Cushings syndrome.  It's an endocrine disorder where you are producing too much cortisone, and you have all the symptom's.Now that you have included the marks on your abdomen, you are leaning more and more to Cushing's syndrome. Let me know  what your Dr. says, email me

  2. I would definitely say that you have a hormonal inbalance dear. You should always check with your ob/gyn to confirm and have some blood work and thyroid test done , but i did have a similar problem with skipped cycles and some weight gain and it was diagnosed as a hormonal issue and put on birth control to regulate my cycle and to get back on track all together and it did help.

Everyone is different though dear and could be a number of things but that would be my first thought when i hear this =) Make sure to get a check up in any case ok hun. Good luck sweety and no worries everything will be ok dear. Have a good night.

  3. i had the same problem i had a hormone imbalance!

  4. You should definately make an appointment to see your doc.  Its would most likely be hormones like PCOS.  A healthy woman should have 12 periods a year and when they have less then 9 or 10, weight gain, facial hair among a few other symptoms then it could be PCOS.  In which case you would get put on hormone pills.  Google that and see if u match the symptoms and ask your doctor about it.  If i remember right it can also cause infertilty.
