  1. Most everyone has had to miss 2+ days of work at some time. The biggest issue you may face is that some (not all, but some) employers are intolerant when you miss work because of someone else (like family) rather than because of your own needs, such as you getting sick. Good luck!

  2. Best thing to do rather then phone is sick is to phone in and say your child is sick and ask for some sort of paternity leave, Most employers offer this as the government requires companies to allow parents time off work for family circumstances. It may not be payed but i know when i worked we were allowed two weeks off a year for paternity leave which was payed and 2 weeks that were unpaid. If we took sick days for non personal reasons we'd lsoe out sick pay and be required to attend an interview to discuss the situation.

  3. Here's a secret: ALL of the people who glare at you will have to do the exact same thing themselves sooner or later. If anyone actually says anything to you, just blow them off, everyone has emergencies when they need time off, goes with the territory.

  4. Good girl mom! Your boy is sick and he needs you more than they do. I'm sure they can get by without you. Ya, so what if you miss out on a cuople days pay, your child is your top priority. i hope he feels better soon.

  5. your company have a legal obligation to let you have time off if your child is sick. (check your handbook)

Your colleagues (especially seniors) could be liable for a hefty harassment claim if they make you feel uncomfortable on your return.

you are doing the right thing though. the kids are number 1

  6. I know what you mean. People start looking at you like you like you owe them an apology and it's as if you have to regain their relationship. You shouldn't worry about it though it's not like your paycheck is coming out of their pockets.Don't even sweat it, if they can't understand why you we're out then they're not worth talking too anyway. They're all about themselves and how you being out makes them actually WORK!

Maybe they'll appreciate you when you're actually there!
