my friend is trying to send me a video, and it sends, but only audio works and video isn't showing up. it says it's missing a codec..and this is what one website said:

You've encountered error message C00D10D1 while using Windows Media Player. The following information might help you troubleshoot the issue.

Codec is missing

Windows Media Player cannot play the file (or cannot play either the audio or video portion of the file) because the Intel/Ligos Indeo Interactive 5.0 (IV50) codec is not installed on your computer.

The missing codec might be available to download from the Internet. To search for the Intel/Ligos Indeo Interactive 5.0 (IV50) codec, see WMPlugins.com.

what do i do now?

  1. Error C00D10D1 or Windows Media Player cannot play the file because a required codec is not installed on your computer can have a few different solutions depending on exactly what you are playing or try to play in Windows Media Player.

For MPEG or MPG files, reinstalling DirectX will overwrite quartz.dll and re-register the file in Windows.  Reinstalling your MPEG-2 or DVD decoder would be the next step.

For WMA or WMV files, make sure that you have at east Windows Media Player 9 Series or later installed.  If you have WMP9 or later installed and it doesn't work, reinstall the Codec Installation Package for Windows Media Player (link below).  This should reinstall all Windows Media Codec's on your system.  It's also a good idea to reinstall DirectX just after you install the Windows Media Codec's.

  2. Download and install the KLite codec pack. Do a search on google

Alternatively you can use VLC  [ http://www.videolan.org/vlc/ ] instead of Windows Media Player
