Missing so much cricket due to bad weather is frustrating – Jason Gillespie
Yorkshire's cricket coach, Jason Gillespie, on Monday said that though they cannot control the weather, missing so much cricket to rain frustrates coaches as well as the players.
“I do concede that it’s frustrating when we do miss so much cricket,” said the former Australian fast bowler, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Jason-Neil-Gillespie-c66461, after a championship match between Yorkshire and Glamorgan was abandoned on Saturday due to persistent rains.
“Unfortunately when you play at outgrounds and the weather sets in it can be really difficult to get a full game in,” the Yorkshire coach added further.
The County Championship Division Two clash between Yorkshire and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Glamorgan-c784 at Colwyn Bay Cricket Club Ground was abandoned as a draw over the weekend, without a single ball being bowled on the final three days.
The Australian also expressed sympathy for the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Yorkshire-c867 supporters who made trip to north Wales, but had been denied any play.
“They (supporters) have made the journey to Colwyn Bay and they’ve been denied any play,” said Gillespie.
Rain gods have been playing spoilsport right from the start of the 2012 county season and Yorkshire have borne the brunt of the worst of it. The county has so far lost a total of 1,159 overs of their championship fixtures to rain, that’s 37.47 per cent of
the season that has already been washed out.
Despite disappointment over the wash-outs, Gillespie expressed satisfaction at the way Yorkshire has progressed so far this season.
“To lose well over 1,000 overs by this stage is incredibly frustrating,” said Gillespie, the former Australian pacer, who joined Yorkshire at the end of 2011 season.
“When we have played we have been, by and large, outstanding this season and I’ve been really pleased by the attitude, desire and effort of all the lads,” he added further.
The Australian said that the four-wicket win over http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Gloucestershire-c785 at Bristol last month boosted the confidence of players and hoped they would continue playing good positive cricket in the remainder of the season as well.
The Carnegies will next play http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Durham-c782 in a Friends Life T20 fixture at Headingley, Leeds, on June 15.
