Mission Impazible worked five furlongs ahead of the Clark Handicap at Churchill Downs
The Twin Creeks Racing Stables owned Mission Impazible is pointed toward the Grade 1 Clark Handicap at Churchill Downs on 25 November, 2011, over a distance of 1 1/8 miles on dirt for 3-year-old and above males.
The 4-year-old colt in preparation for the Clark Handicap worked five furlongs on his own on 12 November, 2011, at Churchill Downs and covered the distance on the main track in 1 4/5 minutes prior to the renovation break.
The son of Unbridled’s Song, out of mare La Paz by Hold Your Peace, Mission Impazible will be up against some serious runners with the likes of Kelly Breen trained Belmont Stakes winner Ruler on Ice, the ever so consistent Flat Out, Chris Block trained older but vastly experienced Giant Oak, Nicholas Zito trained Ice Box, Bob Baffert trained Prayer for Relief and Wise Dan.
The 5-year-old Illinois bred Giant Oak will be looking to defend his title in the Grade 1 Clark Handicap, he was the winner of the 2010 edition of the race as he is coming off a third place finish in the Grade 2 Breeders’ Cup Marathon over at 1 ¾ miles at Churchill Downs.
On the other hand, Mission Impazible is coming off a forgettable performance in the Grade 2 Fayette Stakes at Keeneland where he finished 9th to winner and the Clark Handicap hopeful Wise Dan.
His only win of the year 2011 came earlier this year when he participated in the Grade 2 New Orleans Handicap Fair Grounds race course at about 1 1/8 miles under jockey Garrett Gomez.
That day he defeated the likes of Apart and Giant Oak, who finished second and third respectively while covering the distance in 1 minute and 49.02 seconds.
His next best performance of the year came in the Grade 1 Stephen Foster Handicap where he got narrowly beaten by Pool Play and finished second ahead of Apart.
Mission Impazible at Churchill Downs galloped out six furlongs in 1 minute and 14 seconds and further seven furlongs in 1 minute and 28 2/5 seconds.
His five furlong work was the sixth fastest among the 47 works over the same distance.
