Question:

Mississippi birth certificate, child support, and visitation?

I live in MS and was wondering if I HAVE to name my child's father who has shown no interest or support. I am not planning on calling him when I go into labor nor for him to ever meet my child. I DO NOT want a cent from him, especially if visitation will be mandatory. However if I change my mind later and want the support, what steps must be taken?

Please no rude comments or "grow up" c**p. I was raised without a father and would refuse to meet him now if given the opportunity. My mom tried and tried for child support and never received a dime.

Thanks in advance for any and all help!

  1. Hmm I will look into this, and post back something when I've got a moment of time on my hands.

  2. Just don't mention his name at all.  There is nothing that says you have to.  He can sue for visitation if he really wants too but they'll make him do a paternity test. And he'd have to have money and the desire to see the baby first.  If you later decide that you want help from him, all you have to do is go to the Mississippi Medicaid office and sign papers saying he's the father and allow them to pursue.  They'll find him, do a test, and dock his pay...even back date from the day the baby was born.  I know, My brother didn't even know he had a son until the baby was 15, then he was sued by the state for child support.  It sucks for him because he would have been a good dad and wasn't given the choice, but doesn't sound like the case with you.
