Missouri Meerschaum Corncob Pipe?

Well I am clearly a newbie to pipes and am stupid. I opened my new corncob pipe and when i pulled the plastic part off of the corncob part, there was a roll of white paper inside. This paper was plastic wrapped. What do I use that paper for? haha... ?

By "plastic part," do you mean the stem?

It sure sounds like you're describing a filter. It's the same principle as a filter in a cigarette. Some people like filters in their pipes, some don't.
