Where is it located? What is the climate, weather patterns, soil nutrition water cyclin and energy availabity like?

Any environmental problems there or natural distasters?

What native heterotrophs and autotrophs and detritivores are there?

Any symbiotic relationships within the organisms in the Ozark?

  1. Location: most of it is in Missouri but about 25% is in Arkansas and a tiny bit in the southeastern corner of Kansas

    Climate: humid continental to humid subtropical, although the area does experience periodic droughts.

    Weather patterns: See the third link for weather patterns.

    Soil nutrition - water cycle - energy availability. These are complex questions: The soil of Missouri is a type called Menfro (see fourth link), see the fifth link for the water cycle.

    Natural disasters: The New Madrid fault is in Missouri. that fault is responsible for one of the largest earthquakes ever to hit the US. It caused the Mississippi River to flow backwards for a while and changed its course.

    Environmental Problems: The Mississippi River has a number of environmental problems see link 6.

    Natives:

    Heterotrophs are animals and fungi - fox

    Autotrophs are plants - pine tree

    Detritivores eat things that are rotting - earth worms

    Symbiotic relationships? Yes. lichen would be one example.
