Missouri Tigers rout Northwestern Demons 90-56 - NCAA Basketball Recap
Missouri Tigers are having a phenomenal NCAA Basketball Tournament 2011 and have crushed every team they have faced so far.
On Friday night, they were no different they extended their unbeaten record to 6-0 by humiliating Northwestern State Demons 90-56.
In what was a completely one sided affair, Demons tried everything they could to wear down the tigers but all their efforts went in vain as they failed to prevent Tigers mighty offense from penetrating their defence.
A pleasant game for Tigers without a doubt, but for Marcus Denmon, this game was extra special.
He was simply outstanding and scored his career high 31 points including 7 for 10 from the downtown. Not only on the offense, but he was rock solid on the defence as he pulled down 6 rebounds.
But despite the win and a superb 40 minutes in the court, Marcus said he and his team are still not completely satisfied with themselves. He added
"We've done some things well, but we're still a hungry group," Denmon said. "I feel that starting off 7-0 is good, but it's something that we want to build on as a team. It's not something that we're satisfied with at all."
Ricardo Ratliffe was also impressive and pounded 22 points on a near perfect, shooting 10 for 11 from the arc. Michael Dixon also had a memorable outing and chipped in with his career high 19 for the winners.
James Hulbin, who came off the bench late, marshalled Demons with 14 points and 6 rebounds while Louis Ellis and Demetrice Jacobs both finished with 10 each.
Fate of the game was already decided in the first 8 minutes as Tigers bolted a fierce 29-6 spurt, fittingly led by three top scorers from the side.
Demons showed some fight and replied with a 13-7 run to make it 19-36, but unfortunately for them, Tigers were in an aggressive mood and went on to score 21 points in the last 7 minutes of the half in contrast to Demons 12 to finish
the half with all the momentum on their side, leading by 57-31.
Demons needed to do something out of ordinary in the second half to get themselves back in the game, however it was not to be.
To make things worse and more embarrassing for Demons, Tigers reeled off a 16-3 opening run, led by Marcus and Ratliffe to extend the lead to mammoth 40 points 73-33.
Game was done and dusted at that point and remaining minutes were just a mere formality. Demons had braced themselves for a massive defeat which did come in the end, however fortunately for them; they fuelled a 17-9 run in the
ending minutes to make the loss less embarrassing.
